Confessions of an Under Prepared Parent

Not that it really matters, but the issue of "pets for kids" has come up a few times since I had kids. Let me tell you I side with those that view pets as kids. I do. I have no pets but the stories I have heard about puppies and the insane similarities to newborns/babies converted me. Call your dog your baby. I won't judge. I will probably just nod in agreement.

This brings me to my first official Confession of an Under Prepared Parent. For the last two nights I have had to vacate my own bed in the wee hours of morn (4-6) because my son (4 years old) climbs into bed and hogs all the space.

Hush up whatever you just muttered under your breath about not letting my kid sleep in my bed, or putting him back in his room, or whatever else it was. There is nothing more relentless than my four year old boy. Nothing. My final surrender to let him sleep in my bed took place only after we put him back in his own bed twice. At one point he went kicking and screaming and waking the baby.

Tonight I have placed a Thomas the Tank Engine inflatable sleeping bag by my bedside. Should the four year old wander into my room and request a place in our bed he will be banished bedside in what I must say strongly resembles a pet bed.

7 sign your pity:

Most mornings my 3 1/2 year old climbs into bed with me somewhere around 5-6. I have to say though that I love it. This is the only time that he will let me cuddle him and it gives both of us a chance to get a little bit more extra sleep. That is a good idea though about the bed next to yours as a sleeping option.

Always have had kids in our bed...the solution: a bigger bed (which we have yet to get). Maes has moved to the floor next to the bed. We almost got Mikah a dog bed for Christmas. She was loving the dog bed of her 'cousin' dog Hamlet. A great dane.

I don't judge you at all but it does make me feel like a mean mom cause of how I handle Brody. I put those child proof things that go on the handle of doors on the inside door knob of Brody's room so he can't come out. If he wakes up in the night it is not like he can even come to my bed.

I am glad you have the Thomas bed as a way to get him to not kick you out of bed....hope it works out!

I'll have to try this...WHEN I'M A HORRIBLE MOTHER. Just kidding. Keane gets in our bed almost nightly and I'm serious when I say I need to try this.

When you got the Cars couch thing I coveted it, because I knew it would be ideal for the foot of our bed, when Harrison creeps in.

You're in good company.
